What is Pepperweb’s Island?

We created our island at the beginning of the year 2016. The idea was to create a different environment for people to get to know Pepperweb without having to go through any of our websites. We divided the Island in 6 core departments: UX & UI, branding, illustration, web development, app development and digital marketing. Each features a visual representation of the department’s core functions. The island can be considered as a piece of our world as it features 89 of our Pepper-branded characters. We are using this island to showcase our skills and connect directly with our clients. Each of those departments allows you to get in touch with us by sending an enquiry with a single click.

The Context & Challenge

People are reading less and this trend is affecting every company in almost every industry. Throughout the years, we realized that the way we display what we do and how we do it should evolve along with this movement. We do not intend to delete any written content from the web but we try to give our customers the experience they are looking for.

The Solution

The obvious answer was to be playful while we create a stunning visual representation of all our departments. The cure for boredom is curiosity, creativity and fun. The Island was the perfect solution to this problem, we recreated a pepper world where customers can interact directly with every team in our agency – without the hassle.

The Sketches

Sketching is one of the core stages of every single asset being designed. It was the most important phase of the island’s creation as it sets the global direction – to make it look real. Inspired by the Hallelujah Mountains reused in the Avatar movie, the Island is a contextual experience of what we stand for: Creativity, Fun and Love.

Island Development

If you pay attention, you’ll realize that each department was carefully visualized based on what it represents. Popular mascots for branding, flashy icons for mobile, all those visualizations are there to make your life easier while connecting you with the right department.

We animated all our departments for you to enjoy your stay on our island; we really value your feedback on it and constantly improve it to guarantee you the best experience. Our 6 departments are directly connected to their respective team, whenever your enquiry is received you are directly transferred to the concerned person in our team, all this with the touch of a button.

User experience is the name of the game

One of the core problems user experience is solving over the last few years is that it actually gives the user what they’re looking for. No client wants to spend their time on a long form to get in touch with a company, so we started by asking ourselves what we need to connect with a client. As a start, what’s required is only a name and phone number, nothing else. This is exactly what we used on the island. The end result is really interesting, by helping our clients save time while they send us a question, we actually receive 4 times the amount of enquiries.

Peppers

We get this very often: a lot of people remember us just because of our mascots. Experts say there are 16 main personality types.. . So we took this number and multiplied it by 10. With 160 different mascots, we are sure that everyone can relate with our brand. Each of them feature distinctive characteristics so that it connects to all our clients. Similarity is key in building rapport and trust.

Something for everyone

We brought to life many different things on our island. Buildings, trees, playgrounds, hospitals, ice cream stands, musical instruments, wind power generators and structures of many sorts. These elaborate elements look real and span almost every imaginable industry for a reason. They help all our clients feel closer to us. While they explore our world they can immediately tell that a part of us belongs to them.

Colours

Our island is an experiential website, and what’s an experience if it doesn’t look and feel genuine? More than that though we don’t like to waste pixels that’s why each colour has a purpose. Our island features 4 main colours. The colour yellow relates to acquired knowledge. On the other hand, brown is the colour of security, protection and material wealth. Blue signifies trust and responsibility while green shows the world that we stand for balance, harmony and constant growth.

United we stand

The efficiency of a process is determined by end results. In digital almost every company needs a combination of things to live and breathe success. That’s why not only do we offer everything a brand needs but also use it for ourselves. Spanning 6 main vital digital functions, our agency was able to showcase our talents and abilities in an easily digestible and exciting way. The island shows how we go about development, branding, user experience and illustration.

Typography

Typography is powerful. Used correctly, typography can convey a certain mood or feeling and it helps attract the audience’s attention. Clean fonts are reader-friendly and it also helps establish an information hierarchy. For Pepperweb’s island we chose the popular Montserrat font which rescues the beauty of urban typography from the first half of the 20th century in a traditional neighbourhood of Buenos Aires that goes by the same name.
