What is Kafflas?

Kafflas was established in Dubai with the aim of creating a digital marketplace for exotic animals. Prior to the company's establishment, Dubai's animal trade industry was flogged with illegal animal trafficking activities that further endangered United Arab Emirate's wildlife.

For this reason, Kafflas aspires to develop a regulated multi-seller e-commerce platform where exotic animals are traded in accordance with UAE's wildlife preservation laws. The company's e-commerce system enables customers to sell or buy horses, eagles and camels without any legal controversies.

The Challenge & Solution

Dubai is (or rather was) infamous for its many illicit online wildlife trades. With this negative impression, Kafflas is challenged to communicate the company brand in a way that will inspire trust and credibility. The solution presented was simple: create a state-of-the-art website that will help lessen the stigma of this industry.

The website will be straightforward and creative to eliminate any pretentious atmosphere. Modern and simplistic web elements will be implemented to highlight the company's unequivocal business platform.

Web & Mobile

Web and mobile device usage is predicted to rise unprecedentedly in the coming years. Hence, the website is designed with appropriate formatting methods to ensure its compatibility with all web and mobile devices. Best HTML practices were utilized to eliminate any distortions or site display problems.

Brand Development

Kafflas' brand development involved multiple stages of planning and execution, especially with regard to its logo. The team understands the urgency to develop a logo design that will best reflect Kafflas’ mission. Multiple creative designs were exploited until the logo finally evolved into a symbol of trust and camaraderie: a handwritten drawing pattern that gives an impression of people holding hands. This logo not only represents respect and understanding among traders, but also connotes affection, safety and comfort for traders and animals alike. It conveys the message of working together towards safe business transaction and wildlife preservation and protection.

Search Page

The Search page is structured to reflect convenience and diversity. This on-site search component is akin to any trustworthy e-commerce website and promotes efficient user search experience. The Search page supports multiple search options and filters for users to sort animals and narrow down search results according to their order preferences.

Moreover, vivid and actual photos of the animals are incorporated to improve the visual content of the page and enhance the seller’s product description.

Buyer/Seller

The Buyer/Seller page is designed to categorize users as either buyers or sellers. This promotes clarity of transactions as users are allowed to manage their account according to their business intentions. The page layout is minimalist, with call-to-action buttons that encourage sellers and buyers to sign up or log into account. The page's copy is also straightforward and understandable.

Signup

Getting people to sign up on the website is paramount to keep the business fully operational. Kafflas' Signup page was created to be pretty direct, reducing any unnecessary required information. This makes the signup process less complicated. Furthermore, the page’s background is designed with a flying eagle on monochromatic gray setting. This augments the simplistic page layout, which further lessens intimidation in the signup process.

Animal Page

The animal page is similar to the product page of other e-commerce websites. This page displays the features of a chosen animal, including a short description field, call-to-action buttons, colour, gender and age options.

Other animal features, such as animal measurements, can also be shown in the animal page to complete the animal description. A gallery slider is also incorporated for users to easily browse the photos of their chosen animal.

Create Listing

The Create Listing page is designed for sellers to list their animals in the website. Unlike in other e-commerce websites, Kafflas' Create Listing page is easy to navigate with three major categories to choose from. Through this format, sellers could easily key in their animal's specifications, such as basic information, measurements, medical history and awards. The page's modern interface also helps sellers list their animals without the need to type blocks of texts.

Colours

The site’s colour scheme is a subtle combination of blue, red, yellow and gray. Given the negative connotation of the wildlife trade industry in Dubai, blue is chosen as the primary colour (usually for backgrounds and several call-to-action buttons) as it is known to elicit trust and loyalty among customers. Various gray shades, on the other hand, are used as type colours and background colour gradients to several pages. This neutral tone enhances the clarity and readability of content and creates a sense of solidarity to the overall web design. Red and yellow tones are also used minimally to accentuate some facets of the website (e.g., call-to-action buttons, links).

Typography

Typography for Kafflas' website is artistically simple. The Open Sans family is utilized to enhance the content’s clarity and maintain the neatness of the web design. This typography treatment further creates an atmosphere of authority and professionalism all throughout the website.
